- Lourinhã - The Portuguese Capital of Dinosaurs
The Lourinhã district has 12 kilometres of coastline, appealing beaches combine with several rough cliffs and peaceful bays, a glorious contribute to our western natural beauty.
The white sandy beach of Paimogo holds the fortress of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos de Paimogo. It was built in 1674 by King D. Pedro II during the war with Spain after the proclamation of independence from Portugal in the year of 1640.
The interior area of this region has excellent conditions for a peaceful and restful holiday, the countryside is characterized by the rural landscapes and colourful views.
Famous for the production of quality spirits, they are recognized since the mid-twentieth century. In 1992 this region was certified with Controlled Denomination of Origin, spirit quality brand of Lourinhã.
Also known as the "Portuguese Capital of Dinosaurs" the renowned Lourinhã Museum exhibits exclusive dinosaur findings as the dinosaur eggs proving the existence of these in this region, other unique new fossil species were also discovered as Dinheirosaurus, Lourinhasaurus and Lourinhanosaurus.
